What Is Hypnosis?
The Egyptians used hypnosis in healing practices as early
as 1552BC.
During the 18th century it was widely used by surgeons
to create anaesthesia replacing or reducing the use of
ether. As a result the operative survival rate increased
from 50% to 97%.
In 1955 the British Medical Association approved hypnosis
as a valid medical treatment.
Our minds are made up of two parts, 10% is the conscious
mind, responsible for the critical judgement and willpower,
and 90% is the subconscious mind which is the ‘engine’ that
never sleeps. It controls our body functions such as heartbeat,
breathing and digestion when we sleep and this is also
where our memories, thoughts and emotions are stored.
Hypnotherapy works because the subconscious is responsible
for healing the body, the immune system, stress management
and self esteem. So by communicating with your subconscious
mind, you will be able to understand why you behave a certain
way and you will be able to make the changes you want in
order to achieve a certain goal, without using willpower.
The results can be quick as hypnotherapy gets to the root
of the problem, eliminating hours of costly and sometimes
painful counselling sessions.
Is it safe?
Absolutely. You enter hypnosis by a deep relaxation technique
and you can stop whenever you want, no matter how relaxed
you feel.
What if I can’t be hypnotised?
Everyone can be hypnotised if they so wish. No hypnotherapist
can make you do anything you don’t want to do.
What does it feel like?
You remain awake and fully aware of everything around you.
You feel pleasantly calm and deeply relaxed, like the
moment just before you drift off to sleep. When the session
is over, you will feel revitalised and relaxed which
is a welcome respite from the fast lane of life. As a
result you will be calmer and you will sleep better.
What if I get stuck in hypnosis?
You wont. No matter how relaxed you are, you remain in
control at all times and you can stop whenever you wish.
Will I be under the hypnotist’s power,
as on TV?
Your subconscious will not let you do anything you don’t
want to do. Stage hypnotists cannot make you do anything
against your will.
How many sessions will I need?
That depends
on you and what you want to change. Hypnosis works very quickly compared to
other therapies and even serious issues can be resolved in as little as one
session |
